This is a warning banner that will be used soon! :D
Trail Safety
Always use common sense on the trail. Following a few basic guidelines will help to ensure that you and other trail users remain safe.
Rules for Everyone
Keep to the right. (Equestrians should remain on equestrian path.)
Stop and look both ways at all crossings.
Stay alert.
Warn before passing: "On your left."
If you stop, please move off the trail.
Be courteous to other trail users.
When approaching an equestrian from the rear, be careful not to spook the horse:
Call out a clear warning in advance: "Passing on the left" or "Passing on the right."
Pass carefully, leaving extra space between yourself and the horse.
Rules for Cyclists
Wear a helmet.
Maintain a safe speed and be prepared to stop.
Be alert for hazards and changing trail conditions.
Yield to skaters and equestrians.
If you ride off the edge of the trail, don't panic. If you try
to immediately return to the trail you might catch a tire on the
lip of the pavement and fall. Stop and regain control before returning to
the pavement.
Rules for Skaters
Wear a helmet and protective pads.
Maintain a safe speed and be prepared to stop.
Be alert for hazards and changing trail conditions.
Yield to equestrians.
If falling, use your pads: drop to your knees and slide.
Rules for Equestrians
Wear a helmet.
Stay on the unpaved equestrian trail whenever possible.
Note: As with any outdoor resource, conditions on the Nashua River Rail Trail can be variable and unpredictable.
Sand, gravel, and other debris can appear on the trail at any time. There are also a number of bumps, pot holes,
and other obstacles. While many of these hazards are marked with white paint, others may not be. Be alert.
If you see problems on the trail, please let us know.
